Material development and characterization in the network  

FestBatt consists of five joint projects - three material and two method platforms as well as a coordination project with the common goal of producing stable and high-quality solid electrolytes and their electrochemical characterization.

Material platform Oxides

Aims: Upscaling of the synthesis of high quality electrolyte materials (lithium oxides/phosphates); optimization of powder morphology, particle size and additives to improve compaction and ionic conductivity.

Material platform Polymers

Aims: Upscaling and optimization of synthesis routes; surface modification to increase compatibility with other cell components; synthesis of novel (single ion conductive) polymer solid electrolytes with improved material properties.

Aims: Exploration of lithium thiophosphate-based solid electrolytes and selection of suitable phases for upscaling; development of synthesis routes for successful upscaling to the kg scale.

Method platform Characterization

Aims: Development of material-specific characterization methods for the determination of ion transport through grain and grain boundaries, resolution of diffusion paths depending on structure; development of in-situ /operando setups.
